LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The South Coast Air Quality Management District announced on Friday an extension of a mandatory prohibition on indoor and outdoor wood burning throughout much of Southern california through Saturday night, citing a forecast of high air pollution.

It marked the eighth day of extension for the no-burn order, now in effect until 11:59 p.m. Saturday. All households in the South Coast Air Basin are included — non-desert portions of Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, as well as all of Orange County.

The order did not apply to mountain communities situated higher than 3,000 feet, the Coachella Valley, or the high desert region. Homes relying on gas-powered fireplaces were exempted.

Residents may sign up for no-burn notifications via Air Alerta at www.AirAlerts.org.
