A water pipe ruptured and caused a minor leak about a mile away from a water main that flooded West Hollywood a week ago.
It happened Thursday morning at Santa Monica Blvd. and Laurel Ave. LADWP crews were dispatched to shut off the valve that contained the leak, right in front of a popular restaurant, Laurel Hardware.
According to Danny Hang, Vice Mayor for West Hollywood, city staff had noticed the leak going eastbound and notified LADWP.
“This is a minor water valve leak that happens, you know, in almost every other city,” said Hang. “We take one day at a time…this situation is not connected to Sunset at all.”
KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke to residents, who say the old pipes are an inconvenience that could have been prevented years ago.
“It's like 110 years old,” said one resident. “It's just going to keep bursting, it seems like.”
Others are looking for action.
“As long as we solve the problem, everything's going to be okay,” said another resident. “We're here for solutions and not complaining.”
Hang said businesses have been notified of the developing situation, but there was minimal water intrusion.
DWP officials said that they have two to four breaks a day like this one in L.A., and very few are noticed in West Hollywood. These crews are still working to repair the larger main break on Sunset Blvd. and Holloway Dr.
