CORONA, Calif. (KNX) — Corona police said Thursday that a 14-year-old boy was under investigation for allegedly making a series of threats to commit violence against a local middle school.

According to Corona police Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis, the unidentified juvenile was suspected of posting unspecified threats to social media at around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The target of those threats was Auburndale Intermediate School in the 1200 block of River Road, he said.

The threats were not carried out, authorities confirmed, but “out of an abundance of caution, officers were assigned to be present at the school during the day,” Kouroubacalis said.

Early in the afternoon on Wednesday, an additional threat was posted online suggesting violence would instead be perpetrated on Thursday “due to the police department being present at the school,” CPD revealed in a statement.

Investigators traced the alleged source of the threats to the teenager residing in the 100 block of North Buena Vista Avenue. Detectives went to the home late Wednesday night, where they met with the juvenile suspect and his parents, who were cooperative, according to Kouroubacalis. The juvenile was placed under arrest on suspicion of making criminal threats, but investigators did not turn up any weapons on the premises after searching the home.

The teen has since been booked into Riverside Juvenile Hall.

Police confirmed the suspect acted alone and “nothing suggests the involvement of others.”

"We want to assure our families that these threats are not taken lightly and carry criminal and disciplinary consequences," Auburndale Principal Veronica Rodriguez said in a statement. “We ask parents to please remind your students, social media targeting the safety of our school will not be tolerated.”
