The union representing thousands of stadium workers at SoFi announced a tentative agreement was reached just days before the World Cup starts.
This comes days after workers voted 96% to authorize a strike amid stalled negotiations.
UNITE Here Local 11 announced on X that they won “won every major issue we brought to the table” and that workers will still be able to walk off the job if they've got reason to believe there will be immigration raids.
The union’s co-president, Kurt Petersen, called the deal “unprecendented.”
“No other collective bargaining agreement in the country preserves the right to strike in response to ICE raids and attacks,” he said. “We hope we never need to use that right.
We want the World Cup to be a success, but workers must retain the ability to defend one another when circumstances demand it.”
KNX News’ Craig Fiegener reported that many of the World Cup workers will be receiving some significant pay bumps such as $10 an hour, with other workers making more than that.
