The Steelers are bringing in a somewhat familiar face. At least to one member of the organization.
With their second sixth-round selection, Pittsburgh took Alabama defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs.
Buggs was recruited by, and played for, Steelers defensive line coach Karl Dunbar.
"He's a very explosive guy and can get to the passer," Dunbar said. "We were surprised that he was still on the board in the sixth round and we jumped at the opportunity.
"He's a real excited guy. He was one of the emotional leaders down at Alabama."
A Ruston, Louisiana native, Buggs spent two years at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before heading to Alabama.
Now he will be reunited with Dunbar.
"He's a great coach," He taught me everything I know, the ins and the outs. A great leader and I'm excited to go to work for him again.
He knows I'm a hard worker. I'm willing to do anything and everything to get the job done.
In his two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Buggs made 11 sacks, including 9.5 last year as Alabama finished as the national runner-up. He completed the year with 13.5 tackles for loss.
"I'm just grateful to have this opportunity," said Buggs, who some feel may have slipped considerably. "There's a lot of other guys out there waiting for their name to get called. I'm just happy that mine got called. I'm ready to go to work."
