LOS ANGELES (93.7 The Fan) - Antonio Gates retires from the NFL after spending 16 season in the league.
The prolific tight end is hanging up the cleats after 16 years in the league, all with the L.A. Chargers.
Gates released his official press release on his Twitter account on Tuesday to make his announcement.
Gates went to college at Kent State but went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft.
That didn't stop the tight end from building a Hall of Fame worthy resume with eight Pro Bowl appearances, three first-team All-Pro honors, two second-team All-Pro honors, and a 2000s All-Decade Team designation.
Gates spent his entire career with the San Diego and Los Angeles Chargers and according to his announcement, will be staying on with the team in a community engagement capacity.
