PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Amanda one of the greatest female hockey players in history and Phil, a Pittsburgh legend and elite goal scorer, both elected to the US Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2026 Thursday.
Phil played only four of his seasons with the Pens, but was a huge part of a third line that helped them win a couple of Stanley Cups. In just 328 games, Kessel scored 110 goals with 193 assists. He was third on the team in playoff points (56) and fourth in goals (20) during his four seasons. Over those four years, he never missed a game.
The HBK (Carl Hagelin-Nick Bonino-now a Pens assistant coach, Kessel) line combined for 56 points in the 2016 playoffs with Kessel leading the entire team with 10 goals and 22 points. He finished with 992 points (413 goals) in 1,286 games in his NHL career which ended with Las Vegas in 2022-23.
Kessel was also part of a pair of United States Olympic teams and twice competed for the USA in the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Amanda is in her fourth season in hockey operations with the Pens. Her current title is Penguins Director of Minor League Operations and Assistant General Manager of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
As a player, Amanda Kessel played on three US Olympic teams (2014, ’18, ’22) with a gold and two silver medals. She played in seven World Championships and won three Division 1 National Championships at the University of Minnesota and was named the top female college ice hockey player in the US in 2013.
