PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- The Steelers have been forced to make cuts, restructure veteran contracts and even still, were not under the salary cap when the day began Wednesday.

But they did make a signing.

It was former Chargers fullback Derek Watt, the middle of the Watt bros, brought in for a reported 3-year, $9.75 million contract.

Does this signing make sense?

Colin Dunlap and Chris Mack of The Fan Morning Show debated it.

Colin said, "I dont think there's nepostism at play, it's a good story to talk about it, it really is. Unless Matt Canada has designs on doing things with the Steelers offense that he did with Pitt's offense with the fullback position, this makes no sense."

"Now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and I want to see it in progress and see how it works. But that's a lot of money if they continue to use that position the way they've used it in the past. And one can ask, if that position is going to evolve, why not just stick with Rosie Nix, uinless he's more hurt than some would think."

Chris wondered if this is just about Watt's versatility.

"If they think they can expand the role of the fullback in this current offense and also are adding one of the better special teams players in the league which Derek Watt, according to some, is...and they're trying to fill two roles...the Tyler Matakevich role on special teams and fill the Rosie Nix role and they're trying to duct tape that all together in the role of Watt...OK I can buy that."

"But if all that Derek Watt is going to come in and do is run down the field on punts and kickoffs that never get returned anyway anymore in the modern day NFL, then it's not worth letting BJ Finney walk. Now that's a role they've got to look to fill somewhere else. In particular, the draft because they don't have any more cap space."
