Concord, NC (93.7 The Fan) - Chip Ganassi is shutting down his No. 42 NASCAR Xfinity Series Team due to a lack of sponsorship. DC Solar was scheduled to sponsor the team and driver Ross Chastain for the 2019 season but those plans came into question after the FBI raided DC Solar's California offices and the home of DC Solar owners Jeff and Paulette Carpoff. Carpoff's attorney told ESPN that the raid "appears to relate to an ongoing tax dispute".
The lack of sponsorship a little over a month before the start of the 2019 left Ganassi no choice but to cease operations of the team, which finished one point behind JR Motorsports in the 2018 Championship Standings. The decision was not easy for Ganassi, who released a statement:
The decision does not affect the NASCAR Cup Series Cars of Kurt Busch or Kyle Larson.
