Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - The Pitt Panthers are in the running for 6'8" shooting guard Trey Murphy III, who led the Rice Owls in scoring last season at nearly 14 points per game. Murphy, a sophomore, entered the transfer portal last weekend, and reportedly Jeff Capel contacted him almost immediately.
The Durham, NC native told CBS Sports Insider Jon Rothstein that in addition to Pitt, he's received interest from Virginia, Villanova and Georgetown. Numerous other schools are said to be showing interest.
Wherever he ends up, Murphy said he won't seek a waiver to play next season. He feels he needs a year to build up his body and get stronger.
