PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Steelers are going green.
While team officials are focusing on the weekend's draft, a new feature has been added at Heinz Field.
The home of the Steelers and Panthers now has POWERHOME solar panels at the stadium that aim to offset the team's grid energy cost and reduce the stadium's carbon footprint.
"Heinz Field is the fourth NFL facility to utilize POWERHOME to help meet sustainability goals," said Jayson Waller, CEO of POWERHOME. "Large commercial sites like this help us educate consumers about the simplicity and benefits of renewable energy. We hope to encourage thousands of Steelers fans to consider solar energy and think more about the environment."
Jimmie Sacco, the Steelers vice president of stadium operations said, "We are incredibly proud of the positive impact Heinz Field has had on the region and are excited to strive toward reducing our carbon footprint. With over 2,000 Pittsburghers employed on a given gameday and millions of dollars added to the local economy throughout the season, we can now boast a reduction in energy use as yet another benefit to our community."
POWERHOUSE has been operating in Western Pennsylvania since 2018.
