PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Steelers have fired another coach. This time its running backs coach James Saxon.

In a statement Coach Mike Tomlin said, “I have made the decision to not renew the contract for running backs coach James Saxon. We would like to thank James for his efforts over the past five years, and we wish him the best in his future coaching endeavors.”

Saxon has been with the Steelers since January 2014 and just completed his 27th year in the NFL as either a player or coach.

The release comes with second year running back James Conner having a break out year that was hampered by a late-season injury, but not before he was selected to his first Pro Bowl.

Saxon also had the misfortune of not having Le’Veon Bell in 2018.
