Poni and Mueller love the draft. They've combed through scouting reports. They've checked in with sources.
They have compiled a comprehensive Steelers mock
draft. Check in periodically leading up to the draft for updates. There will be some as they continue to work their large volume of sources. And they have many. Good ones.
- 2nd round pick #49, JK Dobbins RB Ohio StateSteelers love Big Ten backs. When they pick a back early. They go to the Big Ten. Rashard Mendenhall. Le'Veon Bell. One of those worked out. The other fumbled away the Super Bowl. Dobbins is versatitle. James Conner gets injured way too much. Steelers haven't touched their RB room. Dobbins can be a day 1 contributor. And a possible starter.
- 3rd round pick #102, Tyler Johnson WR MinnesotaSteelers pick WRs high every year. And are pretty good at it. Juju, Diontae Johnson, Emmanuel Sanders, Mike Wallace. 2nd-3rd round is a Steelers WR sweet spot. Johnson can play inside and out. He's already better than Ryan Switzer.
- 4th round pick #124, Alton Robinson Edge SyracuseOur sources tell us that Syracuse's defense wasn't good last year. That Robinson got caught up in it all. He wasn't the rose between many thorns. He underachieved. But his 2018 tape was tremendous. A key cog on a 10 win team. A possible Bud Dupree replacement? Probably not. An Anthony Chickillo upgrade? Absolutely.
- 4th round pick #135, John Simpson Guard ClemsonSteelers need youth on the offensive line. They need to get young. Simpson is an adequate player. Doesn't have a ton of upside. He's solid. He could play for a very long time in the this league. Steelers like to bring OL along slowly. Unless you're Pouncey. Or DeCastro. They like OL projects.
- 6th round pick #168, Jacob Phillips Linebacker LSUNever hurts to bring in a player that's used to winning. Phillips can step in and play special teams. Right away. Although Derek Watt's salary would lead you to believe he'll lead the NFL in special teams tackles, that won't actually happen. Phillips will replace Tyler Matakevich.
- 7th round pick #232, Braden Mann Punter Texas A&MSteelers need to move on from Jordan Berry. He stinks. Our sources don't know much about Mann. But he was 4th in NCAA punting average in 2019. He's cheaper than Berry. And won't try stupid fake punt runs with the Steelers leading in the 4th quarter.
So what do you think? With all due respect to the other so-called Steelers draft experts, this one might be the best. A ton of research and time went into it. Thanks for reading!
