PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – In his third game back from an upper-body injury Pens three-time Stanley Cup winner Evgeni Malkin reached 1,400 career points on a power play goal in the second period to give the Pens a 4-2 lead. Minutes later he would add his second goal for point 1,401 and a 5-2 lead over Florida and finish with a hat trick and 1,403 points.

An assist on the goal by Sidney Crosby as he passed Steve Yzerman for seventh place on the all-time points list.

The 39-year-old is the 15th fastest to that milestone and joined Alexander Ovechkin as the only Russian-born players to get to that number. Malkin is now 23rd on the NHL all-time points list passing Jari Kurri and nine points from Dale Hawerchuk.

Malkin got his first point in his first NHL game, a goal against the New Jersey Devils at home on October 18, 2006. By the end of his first six games, Malkin already had 11 points.

The future Hall of Famer twice won the Art Ross Trophy for most points in a season (2008-09, 2011-12).
