Aliquippa football was originally pushed from 4A to 5A by the PIAA due to their great successes over the years, but the school appealed the ruling.

The school claimed that their appeal is based in the safety of their students while the PIAA stated that the amount of success and number of transfers would move them up a rank.

The debate garnered enough attention that Aliquippa alumnus and NFL Hall of Famer Ty Law was involved with the appeal.

After plenty of deliberations and arguments, the PIAA finally announced that Aliquippa will be able to remain at the 4A level for the time being.

The school’s appeal won with an overwhelming 21-4 with one abstain.
