DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys will keep their number one wideout, as Amari Cooper is expected to sign a five-year $100 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to report.
Soon after designating Dak Prescott with the exclusive franchise tag, as well as sing tight end Blake Jarwin to a four-year extension, the Cowboys wasted little time in taking care of Cooper, who was on the free agent market for less than 24 hours.
Per Schefter, the Cowboys NFC East division rival Washington Redskins also made a run at Cooper, but the Cowboys were able to convince him to stay home and play under new head coach, Mike McCarthy.
Cooper is now Dallas' long term number one option, after one and a half highly successful years in tandem with Dak Prescott.
In 25 games with Dallas, Cooper had 132 receptions on 195 targets, for 1914 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 9.8 yards per target, with a 67.7 catch percentage.
There were also some casualties for the Cowboys on Monday, as they lost former Pro Bowl corner, Byron Jones, to the Miami Dolphins on the deal that made him the NFL's highest-paid cornerback.
With the loss of Jones and defensive end Robert Quinn still a hot commodity on the free-agent market, Dallas will now likely look to rebuild their defense in the draft, with the secondary a likely starting point.
