Could playoff positioning come down to a coin flip?

While we await any positive news on DB Damar Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest during Monday Night Football, the NFL needs to figure out what happens next.

The Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals along with Kansas City Chiefs are all vying for the top seed in the AFC.

With Monday’s game between the Bills and Bengals up in the air, a wrench has been thrown into what are the next steps.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio doesn’t see that game ever being finished.

So what happens next?

Florio tells The PM Team that there is an idea “percolating” that the first weekend of the playoffs would be the NFC Wild Card along with the Bills and Bengals finishing their game.

“Second week of the playoffs would be AFC Wild Card once we know the final seeding in the AFC after Bills and Bengals play,” said Florio.

After that you would have the Divisional Rounds, Conference Championships and then the Super Bowl in three straight weeks, no week off between the Conference Championship and Super Bowl.

Another option according to Florio is a coin flip.

“That would seem horribly unfair and arbitrary if that’s the outcome,” said Florio. “There’s no good outcome so they have to pick the best bad outcome.”
