PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Duquesne President Ken Gormley said before the team left this week that they had more to do after winning the ACC Tournament. His charge was to get to work because they have games to win.

Not only did they get to work after the announced retirement of head coach Keith Dambrot after the season, but they beat BYU 71-67 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday in Omaha.

Senior guard Dae Dae Grant said they could advance and play against anyone in the country. He led Duquesne with 19 points. Freshman Jakub Necas with key free throws and 12 points. Jimmy Clark had 11 with McKees Rocks native Jake DiMichele and Fousseyni Drame each with eight points.

Defense was key as the Dukes held the Cougars to eight made three-pointers, BYU came in second in the nation averaging over 11 made per game. They were also a top-20 scoring team in Division 1 to 67 points.

Duquesne will play Illinois Saturday in Omaha.
