LAS VEGAS (93.7 The Fan) — You probably don't know her, but Las Vegas resident Megan McDonald is a Vegas Golden Knights fan.
She's also a Marc-Andre Fleury fan.
And McDonald had won an autographed Knights jersey in a contest.
It sounds like a fairy tale, but things took an unfortunate twist.
Unbeknownst to McDonald at the time, Fleury had come to her doorstep to deliver the prize personally.
In an interview with NHL.com, McDonald talked out her thought process as the events unfolded.
She initially thought that Fleury was a salesman after looking out through the camera and just seeing a man with a bag.
Fleury eventually just dropped off the jersey and left.
It wasn't until Fleury's agent emailed McDonald that she realized what was going on.
She missed out on the fan opportunity of a lifetime and was just a few feet away from making it happen.
There were a lot of factors that spiraled into a perfect storm, however.
Fleury was tougher to discern thanks to his COVID-19 mask and the distance from the camera.
It's hard to fault Fleury for adhering to COVID mitigation guidelines, but they did make it harder for his identity to be revealed through the front porch camera.
And as for McDonald, she had been expecting the jersey to come in the mail, or at the most extreme, a Golden Knights staff member to drop it off.
She was not expecting Fleury himself to grace her doorstep.
McDonald would probably be the first to admit that she dropped the ball, but she took it all in stride.
But all's well that ends well; winning an autographed jersey is hardly something to shake a stick at.
