Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is refuting a claim that he wants to leave Pittsburgh for a bigger market to build his brand.
On the Pat McAfee show Wednesday, the Pittsburgh native and former NFL kicker said that there are alleged reports coming out that say Smith-Schuster wants to go somewhere like New York or Los Angeles.
“Sources tell me this is completely 100% false,” Smith-Schuster said on Twitter.
McAfee speculated that JuJu could join his former USC teammate Sam Darnold with the Jets or return home to southern California in L.A.
Smith-Schuster’s rookie contract is now up and he will soon become a restricted free agent.
But the 2017 second-round pick has said several times that he would like to stay in Pittsburgh.
In a post to his Instagram story in December, Smith-Schuster said, “No cap (no lie), I wouldn’t mind staying here another 4 years.”
While JuJu, the Steelers and fans might want him to stay in Pittsburgh, it’s not as easy as that.
There are nearly 20 unrestricted free agents the Steelers have to sort through in the offseason, and includes names like Bud Dupree and James Conner.
