The latest word out of negotiations between Major League Baseball and the Players Association is that while both sides are still a bit away from reaching a deal, a new collective bargaining agreement appeared to be getting some momentum.
But Baseball Writers’ Association of America writer Maury Brown of Forbes says he “wouldn’t jump on that train” of a deal getting done Tuesday.
Browns tells Cook & Joe while progress is being made there are still “sizable gaps” between the owners and players.
Some of those issues include:
Players are looking for the threshold of the luxury tax raised
Players want minimum salaries raised
MLB wants an international draft
The league pushed back its Monday deadline until 5 p.m. Tuesday. It’s a self-imposed deadline from the owners that would delay Opening Day.
Another issue is the owners want a 14-team playoff, but both sides have agreed to 12.
Listen as Brown explains what other issues both sides are far apart on.
