PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A major preseason honor for a pair of Pitt players as the Associated Press named linebacker Kyle Louis and running back/kick returner Desmond Reid as preseason First Team All-Americans.
The 6' linebacker was Second Team AP All-American last year along with several other awards including First Team All-ACC. Last year Louis finished with 15.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks and four interceptions, plus an interception of a two-point conversion against Boston College. He also blocked an extra point in the bowl game and ran it back for two points. He had the game-clinching pick against West Virginia-to go with 13 tackles and had a 59-yard Pick Six against Syracuse. Louis was a three-star recruit out of New Jersey who besides an offer from Penn State got little other love from Power Four schools.
Reid was also a Second Team AP All-American last season as an all-purpose player. He also had several other awards and was twice named All-ACC First Team (all purpose and return specialist). The 5'8" transfer from Western Carolina became the first Pitt player to rush and receive for 100 yards in the same game, doing so in a comeback win against Cincinnati. He scored 10 touchdowns including one on a 78-yard punt return against Kent State and averaged 154.9 all-purpose yards per game, fifth in the nation. His other college interest were Tusculum and Florida Atlantic.
Pitt opens the season August 30 against Duquesne at noon on 93.7 The Fan.
