'He shot the ball better than Kevin Durant'

WVU praises Blake Hinson's career night

MORGANTOWN, WV (93.7 The Fan) – It was a quote from West Virginia senior Blake Slazinski that summed up what Blake Hinson did to the Mountaineers.

"He shot the ball better than Kevin Durant does tonight," Slazinski said after an 80-63 Pitt win over WVU.

"We all know the story of the game, Blake Hinson," said WVU head coach Josh Eilert. "He came out and rattled us for sure."

The Panthers senior hit a career-high nine, three-pointers for a career-high 29 points. The team would make seven other shots from three. As Eilert said when a team makes 16 threes, that's hard to overcome.

Slazinski had nothing but praise for Hinson, saying some of his shots were 'Steph Curry-like'.

"Like he said about this Hinson kid," Slazinski said of Eilert's comments. "I'm not going to sit here and say we could have done something different on him. Kids feeling it, we just have to have him put the ball on the floor. He's shooting comfortably from half court."

Slazinski admitted he sounded like a broken record praising Hinson. Saying he never saw anything like that before and he's played basketball for a long time.

"We felt like we were there on a lot of shots," Slazinski said. "Some of three pointers, I had the biggest smile on my face. 'That's what we want' and then net. 9 for 15 people don't even hit that when they are wide open."

"No fault of my teammates I thought they played pretty hard on him. We were there on a lot of his three-point shots."

"The game meant a lot to him. We got to know a talented player like that, you can't have him get comfortable."

"Credit to him, he put on a shooting performance that will get him paid."
