PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – An add for Pitt basketball on the day they find out about Justin Champagnie leaving school for good for the NBA Draft.

JUCO forward Chris Payton commits to the Panthers from Indian Hills Community College in Iowa. The 6'7" Payton averaged 12.5 points and 10 rebounds per game in 2021. Payton played in 36 career games averaging 19.3 minutes, shooting 56.9% from the floor.


Payton had offers from Missouri and Texas A&M along with the Panthers and has two years of eligibility remaining.

According to Rivals.com, Payton had an offer from lllinois out of high school in Bloomington, Indiana.  He originally committed to Southern Illinois.

Payton joins a returning frontcourt of freshmen Noah Collier, Max Amadasun and suspended John Hugley.  Also in the mix is Oakland University transfer Daniel Oladapo.
