PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – For the second straight season Pitt loses its top receiver with eligibility left.
Senior Jared Wayne had another year if he wanted, but announced on Friday he will enter the NFL Draft. He said the process has not been easy, but it's what he feels is best for his career. It's been a lifelong goal to play in the NFL and now it's time.
Wayne finished with 1,063 yards and five touchdowns this season. He toe-tapped for a key first catch in the Panthers final-drive leading to the field goal to beat UCLA in the Sun Bowl.
Wayne also helped the Panthers get a rare win in Miami finishing with 11 catches for 205 yards and three touchdowns. He had 161 yards receiving against North Carolina and 102 against Syracuse.
The native of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada finished with 2,308 career receiving yards with 13 touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass in 2021. His father, Patrick, played linebacker in the Canadian Football League.
Panthers will return 13 receivers including Konata Mumpfield and Bub Means-who played every game last year. They also signed three receivers from high school eligible for next season.
