PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pitt scored its most points since December 28, 2016 in beating Sam Houston 110-78 Saturday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center.
On that December day, Pitt beat Marshall 112-106. On December 21 against the Bearkats the Panthers shot 16 of 31 from three-point range Saturday while shooting 58 percent overall. It's the most made threes since making 16 against Boston College in the ACC Tournament in March. Pitt finished with 23 assists on 38 made field goals.
Ishmael Leggett and Zach Austin each finished with 23 points. Guard Jaland Lowe finished with a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists. Center Cam Corhen had 15 points on 5-7 field goals and 5-7 free throws. Brandin Cummings was the other Panther in double figures with 10 points.
Panthers are off to their best start since 2016-17 when they also started 10-2 and it also extends the winning streak in the Petersen Events Center to 13, the longest since 14 between February 27, 2013 through January 21, 2014.
The next game is New Years' Day as the Panthers play a second ACC game and first ever conference matchup against Cal at 2p with Panthers pregame starting at 1:30p.
