PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The University of Pittsburgh is trying something new to kick off the COVID-affected 2020 football season.
The new virtual experience, "Hail From Home Live," will ring in the start of the Panthers' opener against Austin Peay.
Hail From Home Live is looking to become a "unique second-screen virtual experience utilizing On Location Live," and it will broadcast from Heinz Field.
"We are excited to bring a new element like "Hail From Home Live" to Pitt football game days this season," said Assistant AD of Marketing Markeisha Everett.
"The fan engagement will be a little different this year, but it remains a top priority for Pitt Athletics. On Location Live provides a terrific platform that allows us to deliver a unique game day perspective into the homes of our fans. We have two terrific hosts in Dorin and Casey, who will bring the game day experience to life through this second-screen experience. 'Hail From Home Live' will be an excellent complement to the both the television and radio broadcast experience."
Pitt alum Dorin Dickerson and Casey Garrow from Pitt Studios will commentate the event from Heinz Field with previews, analyses, matchups, postgame interviews, and reactions during live action.
The radio broadcast will feature Jeff Hathhorn, Pat Bostick, and Larry Richert.
For fans wanting to tune in, the broadcast will be available on the Pitt Athletics Facebook page and YouTube channel.
The season opener and first broadcast is on September 12 and will start at 3:30 p.m.
The game will kick off at 4 p.m.
Pitt is opening the season with a string of four home games, starting with Austin Peay.
But because of COVID-19 fans will not be allowed into Heinz Field for any of September's games.
