PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – An empty-net goal with 43 seconds left moved Sidney Crosby into a stratosphere with only Wayne Gretzky as the Pens beat the Rangers 5-2 Monday night.

Crosby and Gretzky are now the only two players in NHL history with at least a point-per-game in 19 consecutive seasons.

The Pens captain is on a heater over the last week. In the Pens last five games, the 36-year-old has 13 points. He is now only six points away from tying Phil Esposito for 10th on the NHL all-time points list. He is three assists from 1,000 and would become only the 14th player in NHL history to accomplish that. Crosby is also 13 goals from 600 currently alone in 21st place.

Eight games remain in the season, the Pens are at the Devils Tuesday at 7p and Washington on Thursday. They are currently five points out of a playoff berth.
