PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – As if not a disappointing enough season, now the Pens are dealing with an injury to Sidney Crosby. The team's leading scorer at age 37 did not practice on Wednesday due to an upper-body injury.
Crosby skated off the ice in obvious pain early in the third period last night after getting his arm caught between a pair of New Jersey defenders. He would return later in the period and play the entire overtime period and participated in the shootout. When asked about the injury after the game, Crosby said 'I just got tangled up'. When asked if it was an elbow injury, he deflected saying 'I just got tangled up'.
Pens head coach Mike Sullivan said after practice they will cross that bridge when they get to it in terms of what that means about their road games Friday and Saturday night. Crosby is also the captain of Team Canada for the Four Nations Face-Off which begins on Wednesday.
Long-time teammate Bryan Rust said he believes Wednesday was more of a maintenance day for Crosby and that he wasn't 'too concerned' about the injury.
