Evgeni Malkin is coming back to Pittsburgh for one more year.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the Penguins veteran will return for the 2026-27 season. The deal is worth $5.5 million.
That means Malkin will come back for his 21st season in black & gold.
“Best city, best fans, I stay one more year… bingo,” Malkin said in a video released by the Penguins.
Malkin joked while signing his deal, asking if he could add another zero to his contract.
While 61 points in 56 games as a near 40-year-old is impressive, maybe what was as striking this season was what Malkin did for the first time. Muse saw him as a winger and the 20-year center made the switch, without issue and both he and the team benefitted from it.
“It’s been great getting to know him, he’s been awesome,” said Penguins head coach Dan Muse after the season. “He loves the game. He loves being on the ice. The passion for the game, you see it in the game and the day-to-day. For him to be doing it at such a high level for such a long time.”
The signing also means Malkin will reunite with Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang, the longest-tenured trio in North American professional sports history.
