PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) Today, July 31, one of the greatest Pittsburgh Penguins of all time turns 35-years-old.
The veteran in question is center Evgeni Malkin, who was born on this day in Magnitogorsk, Russia in 1986.
With another birthday, Malkin continues to cement his legacy as a veteran in the NHL, as well as continuing to be one of the top players in the game.
This past season Malkin reached his 1,100 career point and is closing in on his 1,000 game played in the NHL.
Currently he sits at 940 games played, and will not start the season on time after undergoing knee surgery this offseason.
Malkin will have to make a quick return and remain healthy to become the second Penguin to ever play in 1,000 games this season.
Teammate Sidney Crosby did it last season and is a week away from turning 34.
Malkin is also entering the last year of his contract, but hope to remain a member of the Penguins following this season.
