PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The NHL All-Star Weekend is underway and started with the annual Skills Competition on Friday night.
A rather boring event with only a few highlights, the Pittsburgh Penguins are represented by forward Jake Guentzel and goalie Tristan Jarry.
Each player participated in one event and mostly sat around for the whole event.
Jarry was first to go in the save streak event.
Jarry and Carolina Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen teamed up for the event and came in last, only compiling a streak of two saves.
To be fair to Jarry and Andersen, they were facing shots from Atlantic Division all-stars which included league leading point scorer Jonathan Huberdeau, Auston Matthews, and Steven Stamkos.
Also in fairness, goalies traditionally don't put forth their best efforts in these events.
Guentzel closed participated in the final event of the night with the accuracy shooting competition.
Finishing in second behind the Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho who went a perfect 4 for 4 in 10.9 seconds.
Guentzel almost followed with a perfect 4-for-4, but missed just one shot finishing with four targets hit in five shots.
It took Guentzel 12 seconds to complete the challenge.
Biggest takeaways from the skills competition may have been the song selection from Jarry and Guentzel.
Jarry went with a Pittsburgh favorite in "Black and Yellow" by Wiz Khlaifa; Guentzel capitalized on the Milkshake Factory partnership by chosing "Milksahke" by Kelis.
