Speaking to the media on Friday, Marchand says that his actions were “stupid” but he doesn’t believe the punishment fits the crime.

Boston Herald Bruins reporter Steve Conroy adds that Marchand is thinking about appealing his six game suspension and that he didn’t go into what caused him to lose his cool (again) but said it’s not an excuse.

This is Marchand’s second suspension of the 2021-22 NHL season; He was previously suspended three games for a slew- foot in late November.

Prior to the incident Tuesday night, Marchand has been given seven suspensions and fined five times for his antics on the ice.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety defined Marchand as a repeat offender and will serve the eighth suspension of his career.

UPDATE: It was announced by the NHLPA that they have opened an appeal of the suspension on behalf of Marchand.

A player, with the help of the NHLPA, can appeal any suspension of six or more games.
