Day two of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft is set to get under way with the 2nd through 7th rounds.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a precarious position heading into the second day as they have only have picks for the upcoming six rounds.
While that may not seem bad on paper, you have to dive a little deeper to see how troublesome it may be.
The Penguins, yet again, did not have a first round pick, and do not make a selection until the second round, 58th overall.
After that selection, the Penguins do not have another pick until the fifth round, 154th overall, almost 100 picks later.
That's two entire rounds without picking up a single name.
After the 154th pick, there will be more lag time, as the next selection made by the Penguins will not occur until the seventh round.
The Penguins have three seventh (last) round picks; 194th, 215th, 218th overall.
As it stands prior to the start of the second day, the Penguins only have one pick in the top 150 and three in the last 30.
This is not anywhere close to how Ron Hextall and the Penguins front office want to rebuild an already brutally bad prospect pool.
According to reports, the Penguins have been making attempts to trade certain players, and hopefully some draft picks can be part of the returns.
Trades will need to happen if the organization wants more picks or to move up spots, it should be a busy day.
Pens fans should keep their eyes peeled this morning and afternoon as surely a trade is bound to happen.
