
After three first round picks were selected day 1 of the NHL draft, the Penguins made moves during day 2.
2nd Round
The Penguins began by trading Connor Timmins and Isaac Belliveau to the Sabres for their 2nd round pick and Connor Clifton. Pittsburgh then selected Peyton Kettles with the 39th pick. Kettles is a 6-6 defenseman, weighing 194 pounds. He's from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Kettles played in 53 games for the Swift Current Broncos last season, in the WHL. He scored five goals with nine assists.
In 2023-24, he played in 61 games, and scored two goals and 11 assists.
Kettles played for Canada at the Hlikna Gretzky Cup. He scored 1 goal in 5 games. They won the gold medal.
Clifton is a defenseman that has played in the NHL for seven seasons. He had a good 2022 season producing a +/- of +20 with Boston but 2024 he was a -6.
3rd Round
In the 3rd round the Penguins had three picks. They drafted another defenseman, Charlie Trethewey, from USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program. He will be attending Boston College in 2025. This past season, Trethewey played in 63 games, he scored 6 goals and had 14 points. In 2023-24, he played in 52 games and scored 12 goals and had 23 assists. Per his Elite Prospects Page, he played for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U13 thru U15 teams.
Pittsburgh selected with their 84th pick, a 6-foot-4, 207-pound goalie, Gabriel D’Aigle. He played for the Victoriaville Tigres in the QMJHL the last three seasons. D’Aigle defended the crease in 55 games last season with a record of 16-33-2 and had a 4.52 GAA and .883 save percentage. In 2023-24, he went 13-6-2 with a 3.87 GAA and .879 save percentage.
To end the 3rd round, Pittsburgh traded their 85th pick to Vegas for the 91st and 154th picks. The Pens went with another defenseman, 18-year old Brady Peddle of the USHL. He is committed to play for Michigan State in 2026. He played in 62 games for the Waterloo Black Hawks and scored 3 goals and had 7 assists. He will play for them again in 2025.
4th Round
Just one pick for the Penguins in round 4. They selected Travis Hayes, an 18-year old who scored 21 goals and had 30 assists for the Soo Greyhounds. His brother Avery played for Wilkes-Barre Scranton last season.
5th Round
Three more picks for the Penguins in round 5 saw them take, center Ryan Miller from the WHL’s Potland Winterhawks. Milller scored 16 goals and had 15 assists last season. He is committed to play for Denver University in 2026.
With the 148th pick they selected defenseman Quinn Beauchesne of the OHL’s Guelph Storm. He played in 49 games last year, scoring 6 goals and 18 assists.
Rounding out the 5th round, at pick 154 the Penguins selected forward Jordan Charron of the Soo Greyhounds .Last season he had 10 goals and 11 assists. Charron is committed to St. Lawrence University for the 2026 season.
6th Round
The Pens selected 17 year-old Carter Sanderson of the Muskegon Lumberjacks out of the USHL. Sanderson is a Left Wing who played in 48 games last year and scored 5 goals and had 6 assists. He will play for the University of North Dakota in 2026.
7th Round
With the final selection for the Penguins, they took Kale Dach with the 201st pick. Dach is a Center who played 54 games with the Sherwood Park Crusaders in 2024. In those games he had 22 goals and 65 assists. He will play for the Calgary Hitmen in 2025 and will attend Penn State University in 2026.
