PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) One of the Pittsburgh Penguins least consistent forwards from 2021-22 will be sticking around a little while longer.
First reported by PuckPedia, Kasperi Kapanen has re-signed with the Penguins for a two-year contract worth $3.2 million annually.
In 79 games last season, Kapanen scored 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points, far below what was expected from the young forward.
General manager Ron Hextall stated at the end of the season that the team expects more from Kapanen this upcoming season.
$3.2 million is the exact number Kapanen was signed to on his previous contract that he originally signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Penguins offered Kapanen a qualifying offer in order to retain his negotiation rights, while allowing Danton Heinen to walk to free agency.
Kapanen was a restricted free agent and was heading for an arbitration hearing with the Penguins to construct a new contract.
This singing now pushes the Penguins over the salary cap ceiling all but forcing there to be another move in the near future.
