Pens add depth defenseman from France

Team already had eight D-men on one-way contracts for coming season

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Eight defensemen already under contract on one-way deals, the Pens added to their depth at the position on Wednesday.

GM Ron Hextall gets 6’, 198-pound, left-handed shot Xavier Ouellet on a two-year, two-way contract running $762,500 per season at the NHL level.

The 28-year-old has played parts of eight seasons in the NHL totaling 178 games with five goals, 23 assists, 82 penalty minutes and a career minus three.  Ouellet played a career-best 66 games in 2016-17 with the Red Wings scoring three times with nine assists and a plus two.  He played in 10 playoff games for Montreal in the 2019-2020 season, including being part of the Canadiens team that eliminated the Pens.

Last year, Ouellet played 61 games for Laval Rocket in the AHL with eight goals and 33 assists (career-best).  The Bayonne, France native also had nine points in 15 AHL playoff games.
