PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to be the hottest team in the NHL after picking up their 10th consecutive win over rival Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night.
Over the past nine games, the Pens have been led by the heroics of Bryan Rust, Jake Guentzel, and the unlikely outburst of Evan Rodrigues.
All three of them would continue their dominance in Philadelphia.
Rust got the scoring started 12 minutes into the game with a power play goal from Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby.
The announcement of Crosby's secondary assist was met with boos from the Philadelphia faithful; Surely their used to him scoring on them by now.
Rust would quickly give the Penguins a 2-0 lead with another goal.
After his second goal, Rust had played in seven periods of hockey since returning from injury and had scored seven goals and 10 points.
Guentzel joined in on the fun with a goal of his own that had to be reviewed.
After further review it was determined that Hart's glove, while attempting to cover the puck pulled the puck across the goal line for the third goal of the game.
While not officially at 16 games, Guentzel has scored at least a point in each of his last 16 matches.
Each of the goals in the first period were assisted by Letang, giving him his 90th multi-assist game, tying him with Paul Coffey for most in Penguins' history.
The first period ended with the Penguins leading not just 3-0 in goals, but 15-9 in shots.
The Flyers found the back of the net just over eight minutes into the second period with a Cam Atkinson goal beating Tristan Jarry.
Reaching the midway point of the third period, Rodrigues figured it was his turn to continue his unreal pace with his 15th of the season, beating Hart on a breakaway to make it 4-1.
That was Rorigues' 30th point of the season, the first time he has ever reached that number in a single season; The Penguins have yet to reach the midway point of the 2021-22 season.
90 seconds later the "Evan, Jake, and Bryan Show" continued with Guentzel's second of the game.
The Flyers followed the goal by drawing a penalty and heading to the power play.
Brian Boyle, who played in his second game back from having a new baby, scored short handed to make it a 6-1 game.
The Flyers would score to make it 6-2 but that was it, the Pens did not blow this lead and they closed out with their 10th win in a row.
It wasn't just a game focused on the Penguins scoring, despite having five players with multiple points, but Jarry played a spectacular game, as well.
Small and big saves alike, Jarry stopped 18 of 20 to pick up his 17th win of the season.
That's 10 straight for the Penguins and they don't seem to be slowing down any time soon as they embark on a six-game road trip that started Thursday in Philadelphia.
