CRANBERRY TWP., PA (93.7 The Fan) – Pens signed a pair of players to one-day contracts on Monday.
“It’s a special day for us, we have two signings to announce,” said Pens President of Hockey Operations and GM Kyle Dubas on Monday. “We got a strong push to the playoffs and adding both of these young men to the program will be a big help for us. We need them to contribute right away for us.”
Jayden Flick and Kent Kennedy grew up as Penguins fans and were part of a Make-A-Wish program where they were able to meet and have breakfast with the team before practice Monday, sign contracts and skate with the guys after practice. The players and their families will also attend the game on Wednesday night.
Flick, who lives in New Jersey, said he became a Pens fan because of his father who is from outside of Pittsburgh and remembers fondly the 2017 overtime win over Ottawa to go to the Stanley Cup Finals as his best memory. He said it was cool to meet Sidney Crosby, who he called the greatest player in the league.
“It’s an amazing experience,” Kennedy said. “It’s a great thing they do for us. All the guys have been super nice, having breakfast with the boys.”
Kennedy was wearing a Crosby jersey like Flick and said ‘he’s such a good guy’ and noted all of them were really nice. As for why he became a Pens fan living an hour north of Toronto?
“I think it’s Crosby, he’s just pretty good at hockey,” Kennedy said.
