The award for biggest flop goes to Igor Shesterkin

He's really good, so why do we need the theatrics?

Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin has been good, great even all season and in the first two games of the Penguins/Rangers first round series.

As 93.7 The Fan’s Josh Rowntree points out, Shesterkin has faced 124 shots from the Penguins in the first two games and has stopped over 95 percent of them.

So why did he have to go and flop around on the ice like a soccer player after making contact with Jeff Carter, a hit that appeared to have been initiated by Shesterkin himself?

After Carter and Shesterkin make contact, the Rangers goalie went down on the ice, looked up and then turned around on his back appearing to be in agony.

The commentators on the national broadcast mentioned that Shesterkin had no moved, fearing a severe injury…but no, he was fine.

Carter obviously wasn’t going in to hurt Shesterkin, if he was he would’ve continued chasing the puck, but instead stood behind the goalie, while he was going for his acting Oscar, put his hands up and shrugged as if to say, “what the hell dude?”

The play resulted in Carter getting two minutes for goalie interference and another two for roughing after the play.

Twitter reacted to the dive appropriately:

If that isn't enough to get you heated over Shesterkin, remember in the regular season gave the Penguins a sarcastic wave goodbye as the team left the ice after losing to the Rangers.
