The Penguins pulled out what might be their biggest win of the season to this point on Saturday evening at PPG Paints Arena.
Tristan Jarry stopped all 27 shots he saw as Pittsburgh topped the New York Rangers, 1-0, to take the second spot in the NHL's Metropolitan Division.
Evgeni Malkin scored the game's only goal, a power play marker that came 5:09 into the third period.
The win snapped a 3-game losing streak for Pittsburgh, which will turn around and play Sunday evening, a 6 p.m. start in Columbus.
