CRANBERRY TWP, PA (93.7 The Fan) – When the Pens traded for him, it appeared Jason Zucker would be the perfect fit for the Mike Sullivan system. Injuries kept him from his full potential until this past season, now Zucker signs for only one year with Arizona on Saturday.

Zucker will reportedly get $5.3 million over this coming season, likely banking on himself to have another good year and turn it into a big contract when the salary cap grows for the 2024-25 season. The 31-year-old played in 78 games in 2022-23 scoring 27 goals with 21 assists and was a big impact on Evgeni Malkin’s line. Prior to last season, Zucker played only 94 games over 2.5 years with 23 goals.

The trade with Las Vegas for Reilly Smith earlier in the week seemed to mart the end of Zucker’s time with the Pens. Team president Kyle Dubas talked with Zucker’s representatives this week, but weren’t able to make it work. The 31-year-old has played 12 seasons, 628 games, 338 points.
