PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was last year on a slide home where Oneil Cruz broke his ankle and on Wednesday a moment that had Pirates fans gasping.

As Cruz was attempting to avoid a play at second he was tagged by the Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil. As the tag hit his leg it forced his right leg to bump into the back of his left leg and he fell down awkwardly and the game was paused for minutes as the 25-year-old received medical attention for what appeared to be a right ankle injury.

After he walked it off for a little bit, the decision was made to keep him in the game.

The Pirates were also without Ke’Bryan Hayes due to lower back tightness and catcher Joey Bart was a late scratch, so the bench was only outfielders Michael A. Taylor and Andrew McCutchen.
