From dealing with mistakes to receivers stepping up to Jalen Ramsey balling out.
The 5 takeaways in the Steelers win and now tied for first place in the AFC North at 4-2
Dealt with mistakes
Mistakes, there were a few Sunday, yet the Steelers found a way to win on the road. This doesn’t crown this team, they scraped together an overtime win at a one-win Tampa Bay team. But they won. How many thought this would be one of those Steelers losses to a struggling team with an undrafted rookie QB? That said, more special teams penalties, allowing Jalon Daniels to go 7-7 on a TD drive, allowing a 9-minute drive, an offense that had six drives in regulation under 2:00.
Ramsey actions over words
On Friday, Jalen Ramsey talked in the locker room for over 10 minutes about his game, state of the defense, his previous comments and more. Then on Sunday, his actions did all the talking. Ramsey kept together a defense dealing with injuries and early struggles and then ended the game on a blitz. The 32-year-old sacked Daniels on fourth down to finish the comeback. Ramsey finished with two sacks, four tackles for loss and 10 tackles (nine solo). He did it all playing through a broken wrist.
2 straight for DK
After three games of the season, DK Metcalf had 11 receptions on 24 targets for 98 yards. The criticism was coming from everywhere, especially as the highest-paid offensive player. In the last three games, 19 receptions on 28 targets for 220 yards and the offense went how he did in two of the last three games. The other point is three of the top five Steelers receivers are out and the other in the top five is a rookie. Defenses knew Aaron Rodgers was heading there, and he was still able to make plays. Exactly what they wanted when they acquired him.
“Once we got DK involved, the offense shifted,” Rodgers said after the win Sunday.
Boswell bounce back
His first field goal hooked left, Chris Boswell has more missed field goals this year (four) than he had in all of 2024, and one fewer than 2025. After missing the 48-yarder, Boswell was clutch. He hit a 52-yarder going into halftime for the first points of the game. The 35-year-old broke Gary Anderson’s Steelers record with his 310th career field goal on a 39-yard FG to pull the Steelers within three.
Boswell tied the game with a 58-yard field goal that he made twice. He drilled the first one, but a whistle blew for the two-minute warning. Boswell had to wait around and then made the kick from 58 by 10 yards or more. The fourth field goal of 20 yards gave the Steelers a lead late. The best kicker in the game the last two seasons, but struggling in 2026, Boswell was perfect when he had to be.
Thank you Philly
It was borderline embarrassing at the time, Steelers were on the phone with receiver Makai Lemon right before making its first-round pick of the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. As GM Omar Khan is talking with him, Lemon gets another call from the Eagles, who were currently on the board, to say they were selecting him. Lemon goes to Philadelphia and Steelers pivot to offensive tackle Max Iheanachor. Which meant there was still a need for a receiver, and the Steelers were able to get Alabama’s Germie Bernard in the second round. Bernard scored the game-winning touchdown to go with a career-high 11 receptions on 12 targets and 87 yards.
