The Pirates have officially reinstated right-handed starting pitcher Jared Jones from the 60-day injured list ahead of his start Friday night against the Minnesota Twins.
To make room for Jones on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated RHP Justin Lawrence for assignment.
The team announced on Thursday that Jones will make his first start with the Pirates since the end of the 2024 season.
Jones last pitched on September 27, 2024 against the Yankees in New York, missing all of last season following UCL surgery last May.
Jones will now wear #17. He wore #37 in 2024.
Lawrence posted a 5.32 ERA over 23 games with an 0-2 record.
Lawrence last pitched on Wednesday in the 10-4 loss to the Cubs. He went 1.2 innings giving up a home run, struck out three and walked two while giving up two runs (one earned).
To make room in the starting rotation, Carmen Mlodzinski moves to the bullpen and will take Lawrence’s spot as a reliever.
