It’s official, Konnor Griffin has signed a long extension that will keep him in Pittsburgh for nearly a decade.

The Pirates sent out a message on social media, saying the 19-year-old is signed through the 2034 season.

It was reported last week by ESPN’s Buster Olney that a 9-year, $140 million deal was on the table.

The details of the deal have not been announced, but a source tells 93.7 The Fan's Jeff Hathhorn it is indeed the $140 million deal with another possible $10 million in escalators.

Currently batting .176, Griffin had two hits during Tuesday’s win against the Padres, the first two-hit game of his career.

Griffin had a double in his first at bat in the majors during the Home Openers on Friday.

He has three RBI and two runs scored since his call up after starting the season in Triple-A, about a week in Indianapolis.

It is also being reported that, with escalators, Griffin could earn up to $150 million.

After only five games in the MLB, Griffin has now signed the biggest contract in the organization’s history.

“Signing Konnor is a meaningful commitment to this team, this city and our fans. It reflects our belief in Konnor, in this season’s club and in the future of our organization,” said Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting. “Konnor represents everything we value in a player – exceptional talent, strong character, a team-first mentality and a maturity that stood out to all of us from the beginning. He is the right person, from the right family. This is another important step in the work we have been doing to build a winning team, for this year and going forward.”

“Since joining the organization, Konnor has consistently demonstrated the traits we want in a Pirate – a daily commitment to improvement, a team-first mindset and a strong desire to win,” said Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington. “He has met every challenge in front of him, and we are excited to watch him continue that growth alongside his teammates in Pittsburgh. We are thrilled he will be with a Pirate for a long time.”
