Paul Skenes to make Major League debut Saturday against Cubs

It's official.

The Pirates are calling up Paul Skenes.

The first overall draft pick in the 2023 MLB Draft will make his debut on Saturday, May 11 against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park

Skenes is coming off his worst performance in AAA, relatively speaking.

4.1 innings, three hits, two runs, his first home run allowed, two walks and four strikeouts.

The first overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft has made seven starts in AAA this year with a 0.99 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 27.1 innings and 45 strikeouts.

It's easily the most anticipated callup in the Majors this season.

Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington said that Skenes needed to check all the proper boxes before he would make his MLB debut.

Apparently, he checked all the correct boxes.

Former Pirates catcher, turned broadcaster, Michael McKenry said on The Fan recently that Skenes almost looks like he's messing around at times with hitters, working on stuff he can use in the Majors instead of trying to get hitters out with fastballs.

The paid attendance for Saturday's 4:05 start just got a lot higher! And, we know at least one person that will be in attendance, Skenes' famous girlfriend, Livvy Dunne, the LSU gymnast and social media superstar!
