PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The trade to the Phillies reportedly falling through due to a medical issue with one of the players the Pirates would receive, pitcher Tyler Anderson traded to Seattle instead.

The Bucs get similar return from the Mariners in a young catcher, Carter Bins, and right-handed pitcher, Joaquin Tejada.

The 22-year-old Bins started the season in High-A hitting .284 with 10 doubles, seven home runs, 31 RBI and 32 walks in 40 games.  He moved up to Double-A earlier this month and is 2 for his first 32 at the plate with a homer and four RBI with 10 walks in 10 games.

Baseball America ranked Bins as Seattle's 29th best prospect.  The California native picked out of Fresno State in the 11th round after hitting .289 with 41 doubles and 19 HR in college with a .383 on-base percentage.

Tejada made his pro debut this season and is just 18 years-old.  The righty pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs with four walks and eight strikeouts.  A native of Panama, Tejada signed with Seattle for $200,000 during the 2019-20 international signing period.  Baseball America reports his fastball rose several miles an hour in velocity and now in the low-90s.

Anderson signed with the Pirates for $2.5 million this offseason and was 5-8 with a 4.35 ERA, 103.1 innings, 25 walks, 86 strikeouts.  The lefty seemingly signed not only for help in the rotation this year, but to hopefully bring back some return at the trade deadline.

"He just went out there every day," said Pirates catcher Jacob Stallings of Anderson.  "Even if he didn't have his best stuff he still was going to give you five or six innings which maybe isn't quite valued in today's game as it used to be.  Always went out there and competed, always was prepared."
