The Pirates’ #4 prospect Quinn Priester and #13 prospect Roansy Contreras have been named to the National League’s roster for the All-Star Futures Game.
The game takes place on July 11 at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies as part of All-Star Sunday.
Contreras currently has a 3-1 record with an ERA of 2.00. He’s recorded 64 strikeouts over 45 innings pitched, giving up 10 earned runs for the Double-A Altoona Curve.
He’s currently second in the Northeast League in ERA, strikeouts, batting average against opponents (.178) and WHIP (0.84).
This play so far this season has landed him on Baseball America’s Top 100 list (99th).
Priester has gone 3-3 so far this season with the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers posting a 3.32 ERA.
The 20-year-old has 37 strikeouts over 39 innings, giving up 14 earned runs in nine starts.
Priester is ranked 58th in Baseball America’s Top 100 and is rated by the BA as having the “Best Curveball” in the Pirates system.
Priester was selected 18th overall in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Pirates and Contreras came over in the Jameson Taillon deal that sent him to the Yankees.
It’s the first time the Bucs have had two pitches in a Futures game since Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon appeared in 2012.
