UPDATE: The Post-Gazette's Andrew Destin reports the Pirates have avoided arbitration with catcher Joey Bart for $1.75 million.

According to multiple source, the Pittsburgh Pirates are signing left-handed relief pitcher Caleb Ferguson and the club has avoided arbitration with Bailey Falter going into the 2025 season.


Ferguson posted a 3.86 ERA last season over 20 games with the Astros last season. He struck out 26 over 21 innings with nine walks.

He was taken by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 38th round of the 2014 Draft.

He made his debut against the Pirates in 2018, against the Pirates, pitching three scoreless innings in a 17-1 Dodgers win.

Last offseason, the Dodgers traded Ferguson to the New York Yankees. He made 42 appearances for New York with a 5.13 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 33.1 innings of work.

He was then traded to Houston at the trade deadline, making 20 appearances for Houston with a 3.8 ERA over 21 innings.

MLB.com reporter Alex Stumpf reports Ferguson will make $3 million this season.

The left-handed pitcher will make $2.222 million this coming season.

Falter went 8-9 last season with a 4.43 ERA over 28 starts.

He had 97 strikeouts over 142.1 innings pitched, giving up 138 hits, 17 home runs and walked 45.

Falter was drafted in the 5th round by the Phillies in 2015 and made his debut with Philadelphia in 2021.

Falter was traded to Pittsburgh for short stop Rodolfo Castro late in the 2023 season.

After a below average Spring Training, Falter still made the Pirates rotation last season.

Falter appears to be ready for another back-end rotation spot in 2025.
